                😉The Winter Dike isn't bordered by a dam; the "dam" is the dike, and it's not particularly high.
                You can cycle both on and next to the dike. While a relatively wide paved path runs alongside the dike, you cycle on the dike over two sandy to gravelly lanes. When we cycled up there, the flowering grasses were knee-high and whipped against our lower legs, so that the pollen from the grasses subsequently stuck to our legs—we were, so to speak, yellow-footed.
                Anyone who cycles over the Winter Dike to see the Rhine will be disappointed, however, as it winds its way through the plains quite a bit further west. Nevertheless, the tour over the dike is worthwhile with its expansive views over the fields and the Rhine plain. From around Biebesheim and Gernsheim, however, you can get close to the Rhine.
