This obelisk is reminiscent of an old court in Thuringia from 1130, which Landgrave Ludwig II chose as the supreme court of the landgraviate, where he personally administered justice four times a year - on a court stage: "On the Riethe in Mittelhausen", on the meadow "Maspe" (Am Aspenbaum). The assessors were the counts of the country. This institution survived for over 200 years and achieved central importance as a court of peace.
A poor field path ("Am Denkmalsweg") leads from the Mittelhausen/Nöda road to this former court. The monument, located in a small grove, right next to several gravel pits, is a reminder of this historic place. The memorial plaque on the obelisk has been removed, the sandstone is covered with scratched "inscriptions". Once gravel mining has been completed, the monument is to be restored.
