FSG Werft, now known as Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) Shipyard GmbH, is a traditional shipyard located directly on the Flensburg harbor. Founded in 1872, it has since specialized in specialty vessels such as RoRo ferries, research vessels, and naval supply vessels.
Over the years, FSG has faced numerous economic challenges: After several changes of ownership—including Egon Oldendorff and later investors led by Lars Windhorst—the company filed for insolvency again in December 2024. But instead of spelling the end of the shipyard, the insolvency marked the beginning of a new beginning: In early 2025, the Heinrich Rönner Group took over the shipyard. Since then, it has officially operated as FSG Shipyard GmbH and FSG Design GmbH, under the leadership of Thorsten Rönner.
FSG was able to resume production as early as March 2025 – specifically, construction of an LNG-powered RoRo ferry for its customer SeaRoad continued. Completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
