The mountain village, which is about 2,600 m high, is a popular ski resort in winter. A ski lift brings you to about 3,200 m. The climate is alpine and snow sure (December - March).
The presence of petroglyphs with mostly abstract motifs suggests that the area was first visited by hunters and gatherers in prehistoric times, and possibly later by cattle nomads, who found summer pastures for their sheep and goat herds.
