This area is one of the most water-rich places in the Tramuntana Mountains. Due to this reliability, Eléctrica Sollerense, founded in 1907, decided to use the water from the Font des Verger to generate electricity.
When the Fàbrica de Llum (light factory) could no longer meet Sóller's growing energy needs, it was initially converted to a thermal power plant. Today, the town is connected to the island's overarching, stable grid, and the water from the Font des Verger contributes to Palma's supply. On some rainy days, the pipes cannot absorb the water, and so you can watch the excess water flow into the sea.
The path from the Fàbrica to the Font is not currently marked on the map, but it is easy to find. Simply turn left at the bridge.
The buildings of the Fàbrica de Llum are surrounded by a fence that has collapsed in one place. While the buildings are not accessible, it is possible to glimpse into the heart of the complex.
