While touring the monastery, I was bitten from behind by this little dog. Instead of an apology, one of the monks reprimanded me: "You're not allowed to go that far," even though I stayed exactly on the recommended circular path. The complex is worth seeing, but you should be careful when dogs are outside. The little dog was on a leash, by the way, but the leash was much too long.

The monastery, which was founded within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia, as well as the church bears the name of St. Wigbert. The community includes Protestant and Roman Catholic men. At times there are also Orthodox brothers living there. Four times a day prayers are given. In 1987, the Rule and the Order were approved by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia as the first Benedictine monastery after the Reformation in Germany (Wikipedia).

The since 1967 secular and the decay abandoned village church of St. Wigbert (nave of 1773-1776, church tower of 1841) was rebuilt in 1973 by the monks, re-consecrated in 1974 and serves as a parish and monastery church.

The Priory Sankt Wigberti in Werningshausen is something special. It is an ecumenical Benedictine monastery. It was approved in 1987 as the first Lutheran monastery after the Reformation. The approximately 10 religious who live here live according to the Benedictine Order rules, but belong to different Christian denominations. The monastery church is open to all visitors daily, and is a gem outside and inside. Together with the monastery a real place to pause, take out gear, rest. The visitor can also feel that with one or more overnight stays in the monastery. However, this requires a pre-registration.

Arrived at the Unstrut grother it direction Sömmerda or Erfurt or the Unstrut bike path on. A nice Gabrlung. The way to the Unstrut is very nice.

The Sankt Wigberti monastery is an ecumenical Benedictine monastery. It can be viewed by arrangement. If you want to stay longer, you can even spend the night there, because there are also guest rooms in the monastery. More information is available at http://www.wigberti.de/.
