The history of Breitenburg Castle goes back to the 16th century. In 1526, the knight Johann Rantzau acquired the only hill in the marshland, the so-called "Mönkenhof", from the Bordesholm monastery. On this overgrown dune he then built the "Bredenbarg", which later became Breitenburg Castle. Apart from constant renovations and maintenance work, Breitenburg Castle has remained unchanged since 1898 and is home to one of the oldest noble families in Schleswig-Holstein. https://hotel-wiesenburg.de/
