A popular refuge for waterfowl of all kinds. Since the area is also quite wooded, it's not possible to see deep into the reserve basin from every corner. Depending on the wildlife activity, the path along the dike can be quite lengthy.

This megalithic tomb, Rickelmann I, dates back to the Neolithic period, approximately 3500–2800 BC. It is still relatively well preserved. Ceramic remains were also found at this grave. This burial site is part of the Giersfeld Stone Grave Trail. A plaque provides information about it.

The Giersfeld Stone Grave Field is located in the forest area of Ankum-Westerholte. The Stone Grave Trail, an archaeological circular trail, leads through various burial sites. The large number of prehistoric stone and barrow graves testifies to the fact that this area was once very densely populated. Information panels explain the history behind it.

The Grumfeld West megalithic tomb dates back to the Neolithic period, approximately 3500–2800 BC. The large burial complex in Giersfeld consists of two separate burial chambers located directly behind one another, each of which could be considered a stately megalithic tomb in its own right. A plaque provides information about this.

The burial mound with its stone casket dates from the Bronze Age, circa 2000–1200 BC. It is a stone casket formed from six approximately 1-meter-high boulders and sealed with three large capstones. The entire burial complex was severely damaged in 1973 and was rebuilt. A plaque provides information about this.

The Grumfeld East megalithic tomb dates back to the Neolithic period, approximately 3500–2800 BC. The tomb's current condition corresponds to that of the 19th century, when only about two-thirds of the original, approximately 19-meter-long burial chambers remained. Only rubble remains of many of the original 14 supporting stones and 6 capstones. This tomb is located on the Giersfeld Stone Grave Trail. A plaque provides information about its history.

This half-timbered hiking hut was built by the Alfhausen Local History Society in 1989. It is an inviting place to take a rest.
