Please get off everyone! The two-hour train journey from Montélimar ended here in Dieulefit - average speed an exhilarating 15 km/h! Jokes aside: on these few kilometers along the Jabron river, there is a difference in altitude of almost 300 meters. The station building here is a lot bigger than those in La Bégude-de-Mazenc or Le Poët-Laval. The two distinctive trees in front of the building were already there at the time. Compare the postcard view on the building with the view today! Since 2011, the station has been home to an association whose mission is to preserve the history of the train line for posterity (https://www.le-petit-train-du-picodon.fr/). The road to reach the pass is magnificent on both sides, with superb views of the Vercors, and passages under narrow cliffs.

Whichever side you come from, the drive there is much more beautiful than the actual summit, but that's the case with many things in life.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Jabron valley, this village classified among the most beautiful villages in France can be seen from afar from the road from Dieulefit to Montélimar. To get there, you will have to climb a small, steep road on both sides, whether you come from the east or the west. In the 12th century the order of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem (later the Order of Malta), decided to establish a commandery on this hill and built a castle and its keep at the top of the village. At this time of the Crusades, the place served as a stopover and refuge for pilgrims leaving for the Holy Land. Like any medieval village, its history is loaded and the mark of wars is very present. Marked by its significant damage during the wars of religion, the village was gradually abandoned by the commanders who settled in Montélimar. This departure marks the decline of the site which ends up transforming into a ghost village. It was from the 1920s that its rehabilitation was undertaken and the restoration of the buildings brought a new lease of life to this village which has retained its former appearance. One of the buildings houses a museum of Dauphinois Protestantism which left a lasting mark on the history of the region.

12월 12, 2023, Église Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Comps
The former monastery church in Comps was dedicated to the two Saints Peter and Paul (SAINTS PIERRE et PAUL), also known as the “Prince of the Apostles”. Their common feast day in the saints' calendar is June 29th. * Simon, nicknamed Peter (Rock), was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee when he - together with his brother Andrew - was called by Jesus Christ to be "fishers of men". According to Catholic understanding, he is the supreme apostle, and the two millennia-long line of popes - currently Francis - are his successors. On statues and paintings, Peter is almost always depicted with two keys in his hand; this attribute refers to the biblical saying in Matthew: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Chapter 16, verse 19). * Paul was initially an opponent of the Christian movement and was not called to the apostleship by Jesus Christ during his lifetime like the other apostles, but was only converted later with the famous "Damascus experience". His attribute is the sword with which he was executed. According to Roman law at the time, such a sentence was a “privilege” (quick death and not associated with a long, painful agony like other types of execution) that the citizens of Rome were entitled to.

The Romanesque church of Comps is a former Benedictine priory of the Abbey of Savigny. It is the subject of a classification as historical monuments. The silhouette of the church is dominated by a very imposing square tower whose upper register is punctuated by flat pilasters and surmounted by a small steeple.

Le Poët-Laval is a French commune with 966 inhabitants. The inhabitants are called Poët-Lavaliens or Poët-Lavalliennes. In September 2010, the place was awarded the "Les plus beaux villages de France" award. townscape: - The medieval castle of the Hospitallers of the Comtes de Poitiers, which dominates the town. - The half-ruined Saint-Jean-des-Commandeurs chapel with the tower rising above the semicircular apse is Romanesque. The first building was probably built at the beginning of the 13th century at the same time as the Château des Hospitaliers. It was severely damaged during the Wars of Religion and rebuilt at the end of the 17th century. After the construction of the new church in the lower village, it lost its function in 1895; in the 1930s the nave and sacristy collapsed. - The Donjon, whose facade is pierced with Gothic lancet windows. - The commanderie (salon des commandeurs) of the knighthood, flanked by towers, was built in the 15th century. Its facade is decorated with Gothic crosses - the eight-pointed white cross of the Maltese symbolizes the eight beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount.
