At this point, the hiker encounters another small sacred monument. A fieldstone enclosure combined with wooden beams creates a small "sacred area." The wooden crucifix—a cross with the body of the crucified Christ—is topped with a protective gabled roof and a diamond-shaped back wall. It also bears the frequently seen INRI inscription above Christ's head, with another at his feet.

The fact that the small sacred monument located here bears the name "White Cross" will likely come as a surprise to hikers arriving at this spot for the first time. After all, the wooden cross, which stands within a small enclosed area and is adorned with the body of the crucified Christ, is not painted in the color that gives it its name, but rather in a warm shade of brown. Based on the reason for its erection, which "Walking with Puccini" mentions in its short article, it is a memorial cross. The death suffered here in the snow is likely the key to the name "White Cross."
