Nordic walking is also a very challenging workout. The "staircase of suffering" truly lives up to its name 😅.

The Dragon's Tail Bridge in Ronneburg, Thuringia, will be closed for extensive renovation work starting Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The Gessental cycle path beneath the bridge will remain open and will be protected by scaffolding. Construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2025. Ronneburg Castle is a castle in the town of Ronneburg, located in the Greiz district of Thuringia, and is now used as a museum. A Late Sorbian settlement existed in what is now the town of Ronneburg as early as 900 AD. After 900 AD, this was supplemented by a military post on the castle hill, enclosed by a palisade. Later, the complex was expanded with the addition of the "Front Castle" at the site of the "Rear Castle." With the immigration of German settlers from the 11th century onward, the Vogt (reeve) of Weida were appointed as ministeriales (unfree knights) of the German Emperor, who, among other things, administered the area around Ronneburg (first mentioned in 1209, and granted town rights in 1304) as "Lords of Ronneburg."

Ronneburg Castle consists of a more recently built forecourt and a more ancient forecourt, which contained the knights’ hall, the keep and several annexes. The “Ronneburg Protection and Defense League” was established in the knights’ hall of the forecourt in 1327.

The historic castle complex of Ronneburg sits on a rocky outcrop above the Gessental valley.

A nice challenge after a 10 km run in the new landscape.
