The place is first mentioned in 1152 as Hoychenwaldt, when Pope Eugene III. Posa Monastery confirms ownership of the place. Around 1156 the construction of the fortification with the keep, the high tower, which was erected unconnected to the rest of the complex as a defensive tower, probably began. A castle is first mentioned in 1318. An older castle complex "the old castle" is said to have existed in Giebelroth until at least 1548 and was connected to the current castle by an underground passage. The last remains of the moat of this old castle are said to have been filled in only in 1867. The legend reports that the castle in Giebelroth was "shot into the ground" at the beginning of the 19th century using two cannons that were brought especially for this purpose from Dresden, which apparently goes back to the time of the Napoleonic Wars, in which the Heuckewalder castle was looted. However, no contemporary source is known that goes into more detail about this fortification. However, there is still evidence of a passage that connected Heuckewalde Castle with the former inn in Hermsdorf and which probably did not run under the ponds, but rather through the substructure of the bridge between the ponds. ...
