We particularly enjoyed the history of the town, situated on the Meuse River. The beautiful town hall was built in 1847/48 on the site of a monastery in the Italian Renaissance style. In front of the town hall stands the gigantic equestrian statue of Joan of Arc, revered by the French. This cast-iron monument weighs 2.5 tons. Joan is said to have conquered the city. There is also a Joan of Arc Museum in the town.

The lock belongs to the Canal des Vosges, on the right is the branch to the Canal de Jonction de Nancy

It is the connecting canal from the Moselle to the Meurthe. At the end of the canal is the city limits of Nancy, which can be reached via an ingenious descent of more than 8 locks arranged one after the other.

It is the 46th lock on the Canal des Vosges. Immediately next to the lock is the canal that connects the Moselle with the Meurthe.

This is where hemp fiber was once extracted by soaking the plants in ponds. A few information panels provide more information on this craft as well as the flora and fauna that have since settled there. Overall, this is a well-designed and informative site.

These old hemp roasts are the only ones preserved in Lorraine. The bonds between the bast and wooden parts are loosened in water with the help of various microorganisms.
