Beautiful medieval town along the Senouire, lovely stream

Magnificent town in Haute-Loire with a picturesque historic town center.

The birthplace of General Lafayette (who played a crucial role in the American War of Independence) is here in a tiny Auvergne village.

This church is said to be in the Auvergne Romanesque style. Its magnificent size, its different colors of stone, its richly decorated exterior and interior walls and its location in the city center of Brioude are impressive.

The abbey of La Chaise-Dieu is a former Benedictine abbey. It is a jewel of southern Gothic. Located in the village of La Chaise-Dieu, it was built during the 11th century. Lavaudieu, literally "the valley of God", is a pretty village on the Senouire. It is built around a Benedictine abbey from the Middle Ages and is labeled "The most beautiful villages in France".
