On a day when the Lahn carried many segments, the small town of Dausenau seemed to have fallen out of time. Only the train station and, unfortunately, too many cars made it clear that we were not living in the late Middle Ages.

Nassau-Orange Castle was built around 1120. At the beginning of the 16th century, the complex began to decay. In 1806, it became the property of the Duchy of Nassau and in 1866, it was transferred to the Prussian government. The Prussian government set up the first guesthouse for visitors in the castle before 1873. Free entry to the tower and the exhibition (opening times, like the castle tavern, from April 1 to October 15).

Here you enter the picturesque village with its sights such as the leaning tower (more leaning than that of Pisa) and the Wirthaus an der Lahn (where Goethe is said to have dined and stayed the night). The millennial oak (which is actually much younger) is to the right of the gate.
