ATTENTION: The bridge broke down and is not useable anymore. In dry season it is possible to walk around the bridge. But when the water from the lake is rising, it is not safe to cross.

Lac des Vieilles Forges is surrounded by forests and meadows. You can enjoy views of the water and wildlife while circling the lake. The lake is also part of a hydroelectric system that pumps water to and from two reservoirs to generate electricity.

The phenomenon of fortified churches and farms is typical of the Thiérache region. In the 16th century, the churches took over the role of protecting the population against the conquests of the French and the actions from Flanders. With cattle and all, people were sometimes locked up for weeks.

The Sint-Niklaaskerk is a very beautiful model of a fortified church on a spacious square with a music kiosk. The exterior is warlike in appearance, with a large square portico tower, dotted with embrasures, above the western portal, brick watchtowers at the corners of this tower, and other watchtowers on the arms of the transept. The walls of the tower are 3 m thick at the base and are made of quartz slate. The choir is equipped with a gatehouse that further reinforces the defensive vocabulary of this construction. The church was built at the end of the 17th century. After the previous one was burnt down by the Spaniards in 1636.

Place of reflection? This location is located in one of the most impressive massifs in the Ourthe Valley.

A swimming pond with a fine sandy beach. Three lifeguards are present at the municipal recreation center every day in July and August from 1:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Parking is available nearby, as are restrooms and outdoor showers. Insurance and ice cream are sold in the summer, and pedal boats and bicycles can be rented during peak season. Several hiking trails were opened yesterday, offering walking, cycling, and horseback riding. The pond is bordered by the Signy-le-Petit municipal forest. A tourist information point is open in the summer from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM to provide information about activities, visits, and hikes in the Ardennes.
