Between 1971 and 1974, a Late Iron Age Celtic hilltop castle was excavated at the Altburg near Bundenbach and partially reconstructed to its original state in the 1st century BC. The Idarkopf offers excellent panoramic views over the surrounding Hunsrück heights. The new Idarkopf tower, a hybrid construction made of wood and hot-dip galvanized steel, was opened in December 2022 after the previous wooden tower, which was damaged by fire in 2018, was demolished in February 2022.

There are several caves to explore along the way

Great view from the tower over the entire region. At weekends there are usually lots of walkers, hikers and cyclists here. But I still miss a nice place to sit below the tower to take a break and enjoy the view.

The observation tower on the Idarkopf mountain in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, located in the EdelSteinLand region, offers breathtaking panoramic views from its height of over 30 meters. The tower has a total height of 31 meters and offers visitors breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The tower has an observation deck at a height of 28 meters, which can be reached via a staircase.

Absolutely great. Not for people who don't have a head for heights, or just for those who want to climb up the Callenge. Great 360 degree view over the Hunsrück.
