Mora lies at the heart of Dalarna, on the shores of Lake Siljan and along the Österdalälven river. It’s world-famous as the finish line of the Vasaloppet, and in summer runners can follow parts of the same historic trail. From lakeside paths to forest tracks, the area offers varied terrain and the unique atmosphere of Sweden’s most iconic endurance event.

The S/S Laxen is a Swedish steamboat located at the Siljansfors Forest Museum in Mora. The ship Laxen was built in 1899 at Gefle Varv for Nedre Dalelfven Fleet Association. She was used to collecting wood (wood hunting) in Hedesundafjärden. For this purpose, she was equipped with a steam-powered capstan winch with around 2,000 meters of wire. The S/S Laxen had two sister ships the S/S Östa 1898 and S/S Bäsingen 1905.

Today's stone church in the late Gustavian style was built in 1780 - 1794 about a hundred meters north-west of the former chapel. The cornerstone was laid in 1771-1773, but work was stopped and only resumed in 1780. The church was commissioned in 1789 and completed in 1794, when it was also consecrated. The church building consists of a rectangular nave with a straight choir in the east. East of the sanctuary is a three-sided sacristy the width of the nave. To the west is a square steeple with an octagonal top and onion-shaped roof. The main entrance is on the ground floor of the tower. Another entrance is in the middle of the south side of the nave. The nave has a mansard roof that is hipped to the east over the sacristy. The interior ceiling of the church has a wooden barrel vault, which was decoratively renewed during a restoration in the 1950s.

Next to the finish arch of the Vasaloppet is this traditional red house from 1850. It is named after Nils 'Mora-Nisse' Karlsson, the most famous and successful competitor in the history of the cross-country ski tour. In 1943, the Swede won on his debut. In total he participated in the Vasaloppet ten times, of which he won nine times. Today, an exhibition about the Vasaloppet has been set up in the cottage. For current opening hours, see: https://www.vasaloppetssamlarklubb.se/mora-nisses-hus/

This is what the participants of the Vasaloppet do it all for: to finish in Mora, under this arch. In Swedish it says: 'I fäders spår för framtids segrar'. In other words: in the footsteps of our ancestors, for future victories.

A very rocky part is in this single track. This part is technically challenging. Very nice track with gravel roads, smooth climbs, roots and rocks! A pity is the ending on the asphalt.
