The oldest parts of the church date back to the 12th century. As is typical of many churches in Sweden, the nave and tower are separate. This is due to the fact that, when churches were built, there was often a lack of money and materials for a separate tower. These were often rebuilt later in a different style and material (often wood). The church owns three bridal crowns, including a rare pearl crown whose origin is thought to be from Russia.

Os is not only known for its trains and its train museum, but also for its industrial history. Founded in 1600, Ohs was centered around an iron mill, which was converted into a paper pulp factory in 1893. When the factory closed in 1978 the population dwindled down to about 100. This iron mill/paper factory is now a museum.
