This hut on the way up Saana has a fireplace and offers decent shelter. It's a good spot to take stock before a run up to the summit.

In winter, always stay in the middle of the path or wear snowshoes. So beautiful up there.

Sturdy shoes are necessary for the whole round!

The view is terrific. A quiet place with a barbecue hut, outdoor toilet and a wonderful view over the valley.

Finnish overnight huts are very simple. They are divided into an open part (autiotupa) and a closed, pre-bookable part (varaustupa). Inside there is a large wooden platform on which the sleeping pads and sleeping bags can be spread out. Wood and basic cooking facilities are available.

The shelter was built by prisoners of war for the German Wehrmacht in the summer of 1944 and was part of the Lyngen Defense Line. The Germans destroyed all structures when they retreated in 1945. The original structure shows traces of an attempted demolition. In 2017, this shelter was rebuilt as part of a volunteer camp run by the Association for Military History in Lapland and Metsähallitus.
