Beautiful view of the Peene from the bridge

In 1272 a house "Zum Heiligen Geist" was first mentioned in Burgstrasse, which served to accommodate the poor and sick and was equipped with its own land. The Holy Spirit Hospital was finally opened here by monks in 1338. In 1376 and 1659 the house fell victim to city fires, but was always rebuilt. In the recent past it served as a retirement home and recently the building houses parts of the city administration. Despite its long history, the building, which stands right next to the Church of the Holy Spirit, appears very inconspicuous and you would quickly walk past it.

Built in 1726, the Dutch windmill was the first of its kind in Anklam. Various modernizations were carried out until the mill was shut down in 1922. In 1958 the gallery and mill hood were demolished due to their disrepair. The lower building was used as living space until 2000. After the support association was founded in 2006, extensive security measures were carried out and the mill was restored to such an extent that events can now take place in the premises again.

From the bridge you have a good view, both of the Peene, the harbor and the western side of Anklam with the city skyline and St. Mary's Church. From here you can easily watch sunsets.

Doors and "windows" were painted and imitate a historic shop.
