Fantastic cafe (basically outside seating though, if undercover), great coffee, cakes, and an amazing array of deli products.

The gardens are beautiful and well maintained, while there is little left of the original castle. The yew trees in the gardens are at least 500 years old! No loo but great grub and cuppa. A good stop on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

Follow the signs at the harbour promenade to Dunnottar Castle - they lead up some (extremely!) steep paved paths to the hills above. Views of Stonehaven from the top are spectacular. Carry on up to a small lay-by/car park, take a right and another 5-10 minute ride down a country lane brings you to the castle itself (on the left) with yet more stunning views. From there, use the singletrack gravel paths (you may have to dismount and hike-a-bike at certain points, depending on your confidence/skill levels) to loop back along the coastline to the aforementioned steep paved paths and down into Stonehaven. Highly recommended!

The Formartine and Buchan cycle and walking trail crosses the River Don here. You can see a gauging station just upstream, past the power lines.

Here you’ll pass over the River Don, a tranquil waterway which originates in the Grampian Mountains, specifically in the Peatlands of Aberdeenshire. It flows eastward through Aberdeenshire, passing through various towns and eventually empties into the North Sea at Aberdeen.

Easy to spot just opposite the park cafe. Cool carving.

The park has plenty of parking, and lots of paths to explore. There are several different gardens, a cafe, and a large playpark for families. The colour coded walks also offer longer routes to nearby woodland, and around the golf course.

Lovely cafe in the middle of the park. If not open, then the adjacent kiosk is often open. Ice cream here on a sunny day is popular with local walker and families.

The old bridge was once used for traffic but is now pedestrians only. It's an interesting way to cross the Dee. There is a route that can be taken south of the river along to the other bridge to make a circuit.

The path between Kinshill and Gairnhill Wood is a glorious one. On one side you have lines of towering trees and on the other a vast, uninterrupted view of the sensational Aberdeenshire countryside.
