Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square, better known as Terreiro do Paço) was the site of Lisbon's Royal Palace for over 200 years. It is one of Lisbon's most important squares and, with a magnificent view of the Tagus estuary, is the city's nerve center.

The Alfama district is Lisbon's oldest quarter, a labyrinth of narrow streets, staircases, and colorful houses nestled between the castle and the Tagus River. Everywhere you'll hear Fado music, smell grilled fish, and discover small squares with clotheslines and river views. It's the perfect place to wander, stop every now and then, and experience the authentic Lisbon.

Largo de São Miguel is a small square in the heart of Alfama, dominated by the church of the same name and the traditional houses surrounding it. In the evenings, locals and visitors often gather here, sometimes accompanied by Fado music from the nearby bars. It's a lovely spot to pause, soak up the atmosphere, and get a glimpse into the everyday life of the neighborhood.

The facades of Casa dos Bicos and Praça do Comércio showcase two very different sides of Lisbon: here, the jagged, almost modern stone pattern; there, the elegant yellow arcades right on the Tagus River. A short walk separates them, offering beautiful views of the river and the old town. It's the perfect stretch for a few photo stops before continuing through Baixa or along the river promenade.

Tram 28 is Lisbon's most famous tram, rattling its yellow carriages through narrow streets, tight curves, and steep hills. Along the way, you'll pass viewpoints, churches, and old quarters – a vintage-style city tour. It's best to board early or outside of rush hour if you want a window seat and a bit more peace and quiet.

Casa dos Bicos is one of Lisbon's most unique and iconic buildings, located in the Alfama neighborhood at 10 Rua dos Bacalhoeiros, very close to Praça do Comércio and the Tagus River. Built in 1523 by Brás de Albuquerque, son of the Viceroy of India Afonso de Albuquerque, after a trip to Italy where he was inspired by the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara.

The Arco da Rua Augusta is one of Lisbon's most iconic monuments, located at the southern entrance to Rua Augusta, right on Praça do Comércio, facing the Tagus River. This majestic triumphal arch was built to commemorate the city's reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake.

Founded in 1666 by Friar Manuel da Conceição, under the protection of Queen Luisa de Gusmão. It replaced the old parish seat of São Bartolomeu, which dated back to 1168 and was located next to the Castelo de São Jorge. In 1683, a great fire destroyed the church, which was rebuilt the following year.
