There aren't many elevations in this part of the island. Amidst the flat expanse, the view creates a kind of "ridge" effect. It's also worth a drive. The campsite there is open to guests only, but from there you can enjoy an idyllic hike along the lagoon to Ralswiek.

According to the German Nature Conservation Union (NABU), this is one of the few significant populations of the common pasque flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and therefore particularly worthy of protection. Since 2006, volunteers have been ensuring that the nutrient-poor grasslands remain free of unwanted vegetation that would displace the pasque flower.

The fish smoking ship "Elbe" from Ralswiek is the first deep-sea fishing cutter of the former GDR. The 26.6 meter long steel cutter ran as the SAS 270 in GDR times and belonged to the young fishing fleet from Sassnitz.

The community Ralswiek is located in the center of the island of Rügen on Jasmunder Bodden. Approximately 400 inhabitants live in the small town and its districts Jarnitz, Gnies and Augustenhof. What makes Ralswiek popular with tourists and residents alike is its stunning location in an original landscape of wooded hills, fields and meadows. To the northeast opens a view of the impressive Bodden landscape. Ralswiek with its districts has a thousand-year history. Authentic the chronicle of the community that Ralswiek was first mentioned in documents in 1020. Archaeological excavations and research see Ralswiek as a significant finding. Among the most valuable and well-known finds are the Arabian silver treasure and the quite well preserved shipwrecks in Slavic style. It is not without reason that Ralswiek is therefore dubbed the legendary Vineta Rügen. Many visitors flock to the annual event of the Störtebeker Festival in the city. Info source: www.ostsee24.de

Even though the Störtebeker Festival has only been performed annually since 1993, its origins can be traced back to 1959. In that year, the Rügen Festival was launched in Ralswiek as part of a cultural commission from the GDR. For years, the Störtebeker Festival remained hidden. It was only since 1993 that the legend of the pirate Klaus Störtebeker, who sailed the Baltic Sea with his Vitalienbrüder at the end of the 14th century, has been told every year under its current name. Over the years, the Störtebeker Festival and its performances have developed into the most successful open-air theater in Germany and turned the small village of Ralswiek into a festival venue. On July 19, 2010, the festival welcomed its five millionth visitor. Around 4,600 spectators visit the Ralswiek open-air stage for each performance to experience the adventures of Klaus Störtebeker in a unique way. InfoSource: www.ostsee24.de
