Ernst Moritz Arndt (1769–1860) was a German poet, publicist, and historian born in Groß-Schoritz on the island of Rügen. He is considered one of the most important freedom poets of his time, whose writings fought against Napoleonic rule and advocated for national unity and the abolition of serfdom. Throughout his life, he remained a controversial figure—celebrated as the "singer of the Wars of Liberation," but at the same time criticized for his nationalist and anti-Semitic overtones. He was born in Groß-Schoritz and studied in Greifswald. He died in Bonn.

The late baroque manor house was completed in its current form shortly before 1750. The building is one-story, seven-axle and has a red hipped roof. The high granite base, modest decorative elements and the adjacent park wall give it a special charm. Arndt's birthplace now houses the office of the national Ernst Moritz Arndt Society, founded in 1992, which organizes regular readings, a variety of lectures and art exhibitions. The house has long since become one of Rügen's most important meeting places for locals and guests, art and history lovers. Between 1997 and 2003, the Arndt Society carried out the restoration of the house and the adjacent park. The park is an inviting place to linger and take a stroll at any time of year. The hall can be rented for group or family celebrations. Special tours and lectures for groups are offered. https://www.auf-nach-mv.de/reiseziele/a-ernst-moritz-arndt-haus

Since the mid-17th century, the Mellnitz estate on Rügen was owned by the city of Stralsund. The manor house was built around 1830 on an older fieldstone base and cellar vaults and, like the park, is a listed building. Until the end of World War II, the property housed an oil mill on over 300 hectares of land. Afterward, it served as accommodation for numerous refugees. Later, as part of the land reform, it was repopulated, and agricultural use ended. During these years, the farm buildings and outbuildings were used only rarely and were partially demolished. Vacant from 1990 onwards, the manor house also gradually deteriorated. In 2001, Annette Kloss and Carl Stefan Wurzer acquired the house and estate park and began renovations in 2006, with the aim of preserving the original features. The previously profoundly altered façade and roof shape were restored according to historical principles. The property was cleared, and the park was reconstructed through clearing and replanting. Following extensive renaturation, the property has been directly adjacent to the large body of water of the Mellnitz-Üselitzer Wiek, with hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, since 2011. www.gutshaus-mellnitz.de/ueber-uns.html

The manor house, which dates back to 1830, is a listed building, as is the park. The park was reconstructed according to old plans. The property borders directly on the Mellnitz-Üselitzer Wiek.

Groß Schoritz was first documented as a manor hamlet in 1318. The von Kahlden family had the current manor house built here in the mid-18th century as a single-story, plastered brick house with eaves. In 1755, Count von Löwen acquired the estate. From 1767 to 1945, it was owned by the Princes of Putbus. On December 26, 1769, the university professor, writer, and publicist Ernst Moritz Arndt was born in the house. After 1945, the manor house was used for residential purposes and as a canteen. Renovation work was carried out on and in the house in 1997. The manor house now houses an Ernst Moritz Arndt Memorial. It is used as a residential building and for cultural events. Behind the manor house lies a small park surrounded by a fieldstone wall. https://www.ruegencenter.de/1-info/sehen-1-3-gutshaeuser.php
