Bring a swimsuit and enough water

The “village” of Dornes, in Ferreira do Zêzere, is usually called the Enchanted Peninsula or the Mythical Land of the Templars. These epithets are well-founded. The small town is located right on top of a lovely peninsula surrounded by the Zêzere River reservoir and has the famous Templar Tower of Dornes, a pentagonal defensive tower of which no other examples are known in Portugal. An enchanting place to discover off the beaten track, located in the north zone of Castelo de Bode dam, half an hour away from Tomar. This very small detour allows you to go to a river beach that looks like a lake, a very picturesque place where you can take a bath in the summer, or relax peacefully before continuing on your journey.

It is worth going beyond the village of the Church of Ns Senhora do Pranto towards the Dornes cemetery and arriving at the tip where you can see the Zezere River on both sides. The tip of the Dornes Peninsula, a fjord if you will.

After drought you can easily cross the river, otherwise bring a towel and walk through it.
