The Baltic Sea Border Tower in Kühlungsborn is a former watchtower of the Coastal Border Brigade of the GDR border troops. As a sea border observation tower (BT 11), it was one of a series of 27 towers of this type along the GDR coast, two of which have survived. The other surviving watchtower is located in Börgerende.

From the bridgehead you not only get an overview of the hotels and guesthouses in the immediate vicinity, but the view extends westwards beyond the city. To the east, the oldest German seaside resort, Heiligendamm, shines in white, and you can follow the coastline all the way to Nienhagen with the naked eye.

The new pier was built in 1991 in the eastern part of the town. It is 240 m long and axially aligned with Strandstraße. The pier is located directly on the approximately 3.2 km long, longest German Baltic Sea beach promenade and was the first new pier to be built on the Mecklenburg Baltic coast. It is considered one of the town's landmarks and is one of a total of 189 piers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

At the harbor you will find cozy restaurants with a great view of the sea and exclusive boutiques. There is space for more than 400 boats in the marina and they can still enjoy the best service: whether modern sanitary facilities, boat washing facilities, power and water columns, illuminated floating docks or WiFi - the service heart beats faster here for water sports enthusiasts. Leisure captains and fishermen have direct access to the Baltic Sea here in the harbor.

The former hotel was used as a children's health resort and country school until 1958. After that, it served as a holiday home for the Free German Trade Union Federation of the GDR until 1987/1988. At the end of 1988, the house had to be closed due to dilapidation. In 1990, at the time of the currency reform - the house had not yet been completely renovated by the company "Spezialbau Potsdam" - the house became the property of the federal government and was leased to Krechlok & Unger by the trust company THA and put up for sale. At that time, there were probably 155 applicants for the impressive building, right on the Baltic Sea beach. In 1993, the "Schloss am Meer" was bought by the tenants Krechlok & Unger.
