The 18th-century spider mill near Nijhuizum, also known as the Monnikenburenmolen (Monks' Mill), is notable for its unique thatched lower tower. Until 1935, it was powered by wind, after which it was diesel-powered. Thanks to restoration, the mill has been preserved and designated as a national monument and a reserve pumping station. Volunteer millers keep it running; it can often be visited on Saturdays.

The Ankertsjerke (Anchorage) is located in the center of the originally medieval riverside village of Oudega. Surrounded by a small, fenced churchyard, it stands exactly on the northwest axis along which the village grew. Lush climbing plants wrap the south gable in a thick green blanket.

This 18th-century spinner mill is known as both Nijhuizumermolen and Monkburenmolen. The thatched lower tower is unique for a spinner head mill. The mill was used as a windmill until about 1935. A diesel engine was then installed. The mill is now run by volunteer millers and can usually be visited on Saturdays. When the mill is running you are welcome to take a look in and around the mill.

Doris Mooltsje is a drainage mill near the village of Oudega, Friesland, The Netherlands. It is a hollow post windmill of the type called a spider head by the Dutch. The mill is listed as a National Monument with number 527647 and was put back into service in 1998. (Wikipedia)
