The knightly manor and later country estate Huis Ter Meer in Maarssen was called Zuylenburg for a time in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Ter Meer House, also known as Zuylenburg or Slot te Maarssen, was a knight's manor and country estate on the Utrechtse Vecht river in the Dutch town of Maarssen. In its initial phase, until 1672, Ter Meer was a medieval castle, whose name was changed to Zuylenburg around 1526. In 1710, the old castle ruins were replaced by the Ter Meer country estate, which was demolished in 1903. Today, all that remains of Ter Meer are two gateposts from the entrance gate. In addition to the two mills, there are also two locks. A lock and an inundation lock. The inundation lock was used to flood the polder in times of war. In order to protect this lock, two group shelters Type P were placed nearby.

Here you will find a unique duo: the Buitenwegse Molen (Wipmolen, 1830) and the Westbroekse Molen (Grondzeiler, 1753). In between you will find an old locking system.

Nice place to take a break. The potato/leek soup is delicious.

The Grote Plas in particular attracts many water lovers to come swim in the Maarsseveense Plassen. Bring a blanket and a picnic and settle down on the beach.
