Local history from the 30 Years' War

The Lachte 💦 is an approximately 38-kilometer-long right tributary of the Aller in Lower Saxony. It drains a very densely wooded catchment area of the eastern Südheide and has a moderate water flow at the mouth. The river system has a strikingly parallel water structure and is largely located in the Südheide Nature Park. It contains some ecologically very valuable stretches of water.

Nice little village square with some art, a round bench under a young chestnut tree, a shelter and an information board about Hohnhorst.

Here in the village square, a monument and a metal plate tell the story of the Hohnhorster mayor, Wulfes, who lived here at the time of the Thirty Years' War and opposed hostile occupation (to protect the locals), but unfortunately also died in the process. The monument stands in the center of the town on a beautifully designed village square. Another large information board reveals interesting information about the village history and the former noble family! Definitely worth a descent here! A church and a watermill are in the immediate vicinity.
