Great food—whether stew, schnitzel, or cake—generous portions, reasonable prices, friendly service, and a tidy, pleasant environment. A lovely beer garden and dining room—a visit is a MUST.

The canonesses offer pilgrims very hospitable, excellent accommodations in their monastery's pilgrim apartment. Highly recommended!

St. Matthew's Church is quietly located in the heart of Großenwieden, near the Weser River. Dating back to the 18th century, it captivates with its simple architecture and idyllic surroundings. A lovely place for a short break and a bit of history along the way.

The first mention of the church dates back to 1031, when it was transferred to the Abdingshof monastery. The current church was built in the late 13th century from rubble stone. It originally consisted only of the two western vaults of the current church; the tower and choir were built later. The attached sacristy dates from 1481.
