The church, situated on a hill, has changed its appearance repeatedly over the centuries. However, parts of the church are still said to be over 1000 years old. The tower was rebuilt after it collapsed during a storm in 1811, destroying large sections of the vault.

Architect Hans Sievers designed a church building whose rows of supports and ceiling construction evoke the nave of a basilica with a side chapel. The central focal point, emphasized by the lighting, is the mosaic by Berlin artist Walter Krzywicki on the east wall of the altar. It depicts the resurrected Christ as Redeemer of the World with the four Evangelists and the worshipping congregation. Correspondingly, in the opposite gable is a stained-glass window depicting Christ as both crucified and risen. Source: evkirche-bokeloh.de

St. Vitus is a Catholic church in the district town of Meppen in Lower Saxony in the Emsland district. It goes back to the 10th century. The church, located at Am Kirchberg 1, is under monument protection. Its patron is Saint Vitus, co-patron is Saint Catherine.
