The Kolping Craftsman's Tree shows on various coats of arms which professions there were and are today in Schapen. The shepherd's monument points to the original meaning of the name Schapen. Scapahan home or refuge of the sheep. Both are on the market square in Schapen, which is also called the gateway to the Emsland. Schapen was first mentioned in a document in 890 AD

The mill is idyllically situated on the outskirts of Schapen, near the marked cycling route. Unfortunately, it appears to be closed to the public. While the access road still allows you to reach the edge of the grounds and view the mill from a distance, the path onto the property itself is blocked.

Unfortunately no longer accessible and obviously no gastronomy anymore.

The mill, which is around 200 years old, was last used for grinding grain approximately 40 years ago. The windmill no longer has its sails. Nevertheless, it remains an impressive structure.
