There are so many paths around the area it would be good to make a route out prior to setting off and that way you can make a better estimation of your finish time.

This set of five rises is the steepest set in the country. The stepped loch means that it's a continuous flight with no holding ponds between lochs, each gate opens into the next loch. Built in 1774 it's a major feet of engineering and requires regular maintenance. It's a complicated procedure to get a boat all the way up or down so a permanent lock keeper is employed to help. The structure is grade 1 listed.
