    This set of five rises is the steepest set in the country. The stepped loch means that it's a continuous flight with no holding ponds between lochs, each gate opens into the next loch.
    Built in 1774 it's a major feet of engineering and requires regular maintenance. It's a complicated procedure to get a boat all the way up or down so a permanent lock keeper is employed to help.
    The structure is grade 1 listed.

          Bingley Five Rise Locks are one of  the best features on the Leeds & LiverpoolCanal. They are the steepest staircase locks on the longest canal in the country.

            the canals in the UK are all fascinating. This is one especially, that should be on a bucket list. the 5 locks are so close together and the steps down are deep. I watched the boat go through all 5 locks and was amazed and the process.
            Definitely worth a look if in the area, and visit the cafe at the top for a nice hot chocolate.
