Whittington Castle is a castle in northern Shropshire, England, owned and managed by the Whittington Castle Preservation Fund. During the 16th century, a highwayman by the name of Humphrey Kynaston lived in this cave. Far from being a down and out thief, Kynaston was the unruly and allegedly murderous son of the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Sir Roger Kynaston. He was outlawed after being found guilty of murder and abandoned his comfortable home to live in the cave. Supposedly, he went on to live as a highwayman in the manner of Robin Hood; robbing the rich and donating to the poor.

Built in 1883, this impressive bridge spans the River Severn as it loops around Shrewsbury town centre. The bridge is Grade II-listed and privately owned, remaining a toll bridge for vehicles at 20p a crossing. It's free for pedestrians and offers lovely views of the river.

The unmistakable red stone of Shrewsbury Castle, now home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust, is a landmark in the centre of Shropshire's historic county town. Here you'll now find items including uniforms, medals, weapons and photographs stretching back to the 18th century.
