Managed by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, locals say the view across Framlingham Mere to the castle is the best non coastal view in Suffolk. It is a glorious place for an easy hike.

You can’t go into or around the castle with road bikes but you can go as far as the entrance with its impressive walls.

Nothing too special but the location is convenient and there’s a handy outdoor table area.

Its worth taking a detour on to New Road when heading into Framingham just to get the view of the castle across the lake.

With over 30 acres of green farm to explore, Easton Farm Park is fun for all ages. You can pet various farm animals like goats and horses. There are also camping and holiday rentals available for hire.

The original Norman Framlingham Castle, built in 1148, was destroyed by Henry II in 1148. The castle you see today was constructed shortly afterwards. From the 13th century, the castle became a luxury home before falling into disrepair at the end of the 16th century. For 200 years, the castle was owned by Pembroke Collage of the University of Cambridge, before becoming a drill hall and county court. During WWII, the castle was used by the military in case of a potential invasion. Today, you can visit the magnificent Grade-I listed castle which is run by English Heritage. Beautiful castle on a hill in a beautiful town!

In 1553, Mary Tudor proclaimed herself queen. Since she had more opponents than supporters at this point, she barricaded herself in Framlingham Castle. In case of doubt, the fortress could have been easily defended. But Mary managed to win over more and more followers and was finally able to take the throne. She was Queen of England and Ireland from 1553 to 1558. Today she is also known as Bloody Mary because of the many executions under her rule.
