Mitwitz Moated Castle is an impressive Renaissance moated castle located in the market town of Mitwitz, between Coburg and Kronach in Upper Franconia. It is idyllically situated in the Steinachgrund valley, at the confluence of the Föritz and Steinach rivers. The castle is one of the most important moated castles in Franconia and Bavaria. It is a three-story, four-winged building with gable roofs and four corner towers, surrounded by a moat. Inside, the castle houses numerous attractions, including an 18th-century Neptune fountain in the inner courtyard of the main castle. The history of the castle stretches back a long way, and it has undergone numerous changes over the centuries. From 1977 to 1989, the castle was restored by the Kronach district. Since 2020, the castle and its surrounding grounds have been owned by the Kronach district.
