Egloffstein Castle, picturesquely situated on a rocky outcrop above the Trubach Valley and the ancestral seat of the Barons von und zu Egloffstein since the 11th century, is one of the landmarks of the romantic Franconian Switzerland region and is located in the heart of one of Germany's most diverse and charming recreational areas. The castle was probably built around 1300 by Seibot I of Egloffstein as a ministerial aristocratic residence and was first documented in 1372 (Knight Götz von Egloffstein).
