All the elements of a classic Bavarian village can be found on the central square of Hohenbrunn around the intersection of Dorfstrasse / Taufkirchener Str. The parish church is a baroque hall building on a medieval basis - the originally square church tower with its distinctive onion dome was rebuilt in 1670 to its current octagonal shape. The cemetery behind the church with renewed walling has decorated, raised grave monuments from the late 19th / early 20th century. Next to the town hall is the old public Waghaus with weighbridge from 1882. Saint Stephen (or in other spelling Stefan), namesake of this church, is one of the seven first deacons of the Jerusalem early community and is the first martyr (blood witness) of early Christianity. The Church will remember him on Boxing Day, December 26th. When Stephen said aloud his vision of the open heaven, "But he, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven, saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God" (Acts chapter 7 verse 55), the people were so indignant, that they drove him out of town and stoned him.

The small forest chapel in the Putzbrunn district of Waldkolonie near the Neubiberger municipality border reminds you of the victims of the First World War (at least also) on closer inspection of the faded dedication sign. Interestingly enough, not much more is known about the history of the pretty chapel.
