Fremington Quay Cafe, and the bike hire centre only 200m away from here

Fremington Quay, located along the Tarka Trail, offers stunning panoramic views of the River Taw. Once a bustling port handling goods from across the globe, it is now a perfect spot to begin your journey or take a well-deserved rest. The old railway line, originally built for transporting goods, now forms part of the scenic Tarka Trail.

Charming former fishing village where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet. Sandy beach and attractive waterfront with cafes.

The free parking along the road is only for 1hr with no return for 1hr go at 17:01

Fabulous little cafe just off the Tarka Trail and C2C routes. Great cakes, super friendly and plenty of bike parking. Ended up here after attempting to go into John’s Deli in Instow and encountering rudeness, extremely expensive and pretentious cafe offerings and no real seating options. Highly recommend the very slight detour to the beach car park for this cracking little cafe, also situated just across the road from the public toilets. Apparently open 7 days a week til 1800.

Beautiful spot and a great walk plenty to see and do. I will be visiting again.

Super nice little outdoor coffee hut that also does a variety of really nice looking seafood dishes like mussels, oysters, crab and lobster. Coffee and cakes were good, didn't eat on this occasion but will definitely try it out in the future, and add my thoughts here when I do. Dog friendly (they do doggy icecream which I assume is ice cream for dogs).

Lovely café. Seating in and outdoors. Places to leave bikes outdoors which is next to outdoor seating area. Generally a lock is recommended especially if sat upstairs. However there are a few places where bikes can be left directly outside in front of the café which can be seen when sat down stairs.

Located on the banks of the River Taw along the Tarka Trail, Fremington Quay Cafe is a quaint place to re-fuel and take a pitstop. The cafe is built in an old station building and serves delicious cakes, full English breakfasts and hearty jacket potatoes. Fremington Quay has an interesting history: In the early 1800s, the Quay was a bustling port used to transport goods around the UK. Today, you can learn about its industrial history at the Heritage Centre. The cafe is open from 9am - 5pm daily, with breakfast served until 11am.

Running alongside the Tarka Trail, the Isley Marsh Nature Reserve is a haven for many different and unusual bird species. Made up of salt marshes and intertidal mudflats on the Taw and Torridge Estuary, the reserve is home to curlew, greenshank, dunlin and even spoonbills during the winter months. Barnstaple Long Bridge is a medieval bridge that spans the River Taw, linking Tawstock with Barnstaple. It is a Grade I-listed monument and one of the largest medieval bridges in Britain.

This area of saltmarsh and intertidal mudflats on the Taw and Torridge estuary has become an important haven for birds such as teal, curlew, greenshank, dunlin, and spoonbills. The nature reserve is maintained by the RSPB.
