The St. Willibald Chapel is the oldest church in Engelthal. It is even older than the monastery building. It is called a “chapel barn” because the choir of a former chapel and a neighboring half-timbered barn have had a common roof since the beginning of the 19th century.

The community has around 1000 inhabitants and is located in the heart of the Franconian Alb in the Hammerbachtal. The former monastery village has numerous historical buildings and several places to stop for refreshments. There are well-marked hiking trails and a great network of cycle paths.

Very nice rest area in the middle of the forest and very shady. A few display boards explain various things about plants and animals.
