The old church of St. Remigius (Baselgia veglia) is the landmark of the village of Falera in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. The church is located away from the village at the foot of a wooded hill, the Mutta, near an important cult and astronomy site from pre-Roman times. The building is surrounded by a ship-shaped cemetery wall. The church and wall are thus a symbol of Noah's Ark and are intended to remind people to look for a safe shore. To give the cemetery wall the shape of a ship, a large amount of earth had to be piled up so that the tower and church could be built on top. The massive tower compressed the loosely heaped earth in the southwest and therefore overhangs by 50 cm on this side. The special architectural proportions are striking: the length of the church (excluding the vestibule, which was added later) corresponds exactly to the height of the church tower. This "square" makes the proportions particularly harmonious. (Wikipedia).

Disentis is the largest town in Surselva and NOT Ilanz.

The Upper Gate provides access to and from the old town of Ilanz. It was built in the Middle Ages and was one of four gates providing access to the town. Today, two of these city gates still exist: the beautifully painted Upper Gate and the more modest Red Gate.

The structure was built in 1717, and two baroque spheres proclaim the Christmas message. In the center field are the coats of arms of the Three Leagues. Directly above the archway is the city's coat of arms. Other coats of arms include those of the Capols, Salis, Schmid von Grüneck, and the coats of arms of Zurich and Bern with the text: IN HONOREM POT. DOM ORUM TUGINORUM ET BERNATUM HOC GRATTUDINIS MONUMENTUMPOSUIT JOH. GAUD. SCHMIDIUS DE GRUEN. PRAET. TIR AO MDCCXVII., in gratitude for his help in renovating the gate in 1717.
