The weir over which the water of the Steinlach forms a small waterfall.

In the Steinlach streambed along Kriegsstraße, there are enormous fossilized ammonites and oyster shells, which are protected by law. These are also known as the Ofterdingen Snail Pavement. The ammonite pavement measures approximately 100 meters in length and 4 meters in width. This slab of Arietenkalk limestone, a unique geotope, is protected as a geological natural monument.

The legendary Heinrich von Ofterdingen has haunted the centuries as a minnesinger. The "Great Heidelberg Song Manuscript (Codex Manesse)" from the 13th century recounts the Singers' Contest at Wartburg Castle, in which Heinrich competes against Walter von der Vogelwiede and Wolfram von Eschenbach. Many significant traces run through history: In the late Middle Ages, Heinrich is considered one of the twelve leading Meistersingers. He became world-famous through Novalis, who wrote a novel entitled "Heinrich von Ofterdingen" in 1799, thus laying the foundation for the Romantic movement. As disconcertingly ambiguous as Heinrich appears in the tradition, he presents himself to the viewer in a variety of forms. He stands majestically atop a stone column. In this way, the Ofterdingen-born artist Andreas Futter ironically presents the figure on a pedestal whose bulbous shaft, with its thick curves, seems to originate from the peasant Baroque period. This already reveals the consistent element of jest, satire, and irony that pervades Futter's entire artistic oeuvre. There is certainly no victory column in Ofterdingen where a community seeks to elevate its world-famous son to the heavens.
