The old outside staircase on the city side leads to the upper floor entrance of the city gate. From here you have a beautiful view towards the old town.

From the ring of walls in Dinkelsbühl's old town, the road leads west towards Segringen. The originally mighty, four-story city gate was badly damaged in 1648 by the siege of Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War and in 1649 - as an old chronicle puts it - "suddenly collapsed." It was hastily repaired, but collapsed again in 1651 and 1654. In 1655, Antonio Don rebuilt it in the Baroque style in its current form, complete with the characteristic onion dome. The imperial eagle is emblazoned on the gate facing the town. In the gate passageway there is a crucifixion scene with the symbol of high jurisdiction, as well as a stone staircase that leads directly down into the city moat.

The White Tower is part of the fortifications of the town of Dinkelsbühl, built after 1372. The four-storey, unplastered stone building with a steep hipped roof was designed as a watchtower. Loopholes testify to its purpose. Planned as a gate to the south, the Jörgensteg now leads into the town from here.

The wonderful old town of Dinkelsbühl absolutely convinced us. It is totally worth seeing and invites you to go on an extensive tour of discovery. The flair, the historical buildings and the friendly atmosphere in Dinkelsbühl make your stay unforgettable. In our opinion, Dinkelsbühl is a very good alternative to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It's just fun to wander through the many streets and alleys where you'll discover lots of beautiful photo opportunities.
