The historic octagonal building - away from the main tourist routes - is absolutely worth seeing. It is also spectacular that it stands lower than the surrounding surface. The history of it is written on a very informative board (see also photo).

In the architecturally unique chapel of St. Achatius, the main building, the apse and the tower are octagonal. The chapel had lowered by 3.5 meters over the centuries and was uncovered again around 100 years ago.

The Catholic church includes various architectural styles from Romanesque (lower floor of the tower) to Gothic (choir), Renaissance, Baroque (nave) and modern. This mix of styles characterizes the entire building. The most significant element in terms of cultural history is the tomb of Dorothea, Countess of Wertheim, née von Rieneck, widow of Leuchtenberg, which was created after her death in 1503 by Tilman Riemenschneider from Würzburg.

Remains of the city fortifications are clearly visible on the "Schorren". The Lords of Zimmern and Rieneck built their castle on this rugged, approximately 30-meter-high rock plateau in the High Middle Ages and were able to secure their rule in the Grün and Wittigbach valleys from there. The rock face known as "Schorren" (an old German word for "rock") below the castle wall provides an interesting geological "outcrop" into the local geological history.
