The beer garden, with its beach and loungers, is the perfect place to take a break during your hike. You can relax on the banks of the Neckar River and watch the hustle and bustle of the river with a cool drink in hand. Marbach has much more to offer than Schiller's birthplace. A beautiful, historically sophisticated old town with many monuments. Perfect for a break and a quick detour from the Neckar Valley cycle path.

To the west and north, the old town slopes steeply down to the Neckar and Strenzelbach; on the heights in the southeast, it was secured in the Middle Ages by the no longer existing city castle. Three gates provided access to the city: the Lower Gate (also called Niklastor) in the northeast, the Upper Gate in the southeast and the Neckartor in the southwest. In 1847, a fourth entrance, the Grabentor, was created by breaking through the wall in the south. The city's layout is dominated by the five streets running east-west, especially the wide Marktstrasse. The latter also houses the most important buildings in the old town, such as the town hall built between 1760 and 1763 and numerous shops. In 2022, the new town hall was inaugurated at Marktstrasse 34. The Citizens' and Public Order Office and the City Planning Office are housed here.
