On an east-facing mountain spur formed by the Mühlbach stream to the north and the Neckar Valley, Hohenstein Castle now stands on the site of a medieval castle. The premises currently house a research institute for technical chemistry in the textile industry.

The former dairy building was built in 1593. The farmyard constructed for the castle included several barns, probably the adjacent wine press that still exists today, and served as the main and administrative building. In 1848, the building became the property of the municipality of Bönnigheim and was used as the town hall. With the incorporation of Hohenstein into the town of Bönnigheim in 1972, the building's use as the town hall was discontinued.

The Horkheim barrage is a canal barrage and consists of a double lock on the right bank and a power station to the left of it. In the upper water, there is a side canal about 2.9 km long. The associated weir that regulates the dam in this section is in the Horkheim Altneckar. A road bridge runs over the lower head at about platform height. It connects the land side with the Horkheim island. The lock extension is therefore to be carried out in the direction of the upper water. From a nautical point of view, the right, land-side lock chamber is suitable for the extension for the 135 m long inland vessel. (Source: www.wna-heidelberg.wsv.de)
