The Three Kaiser Mountains of Hohenstaufen (684 m above sea level), Rechberg (708 m above sea level), and Stuifen (757 m above sea level) are relics of the Swabian Alb and form a striking trio between Göppingen and Schwäbisch Gmünd, a prominent feature of the landscape. Together with the Aasrücken and Rehgebirge mountains, the Three Kaiser Mountains have formed a protected landscape area since October 4, 1971. The name Kaiser Mountains derives from the fact that Hohenstaufen was the ancestral seat of the royal and imperial Staufer dynasty. The remains of the castle can still be seen, as well as the better-preserved ruins of a Staufer dynasty's official castle on the neighboring Rechberg. Source: Wikipedia
