Significant pest infestation has recently been found on this natural monument. This has already led to the death of large parts of the tree. A complete death of the tree is to be feared. The nature conservation authority made it up to the community to fell the tree because of the risk to walkers on the path that leads directly past the Great Oak. The local council unanimously agreed that the tree should be preserved as long as possible. This path was relocated to protect strollers.
